1. Role specification
Job summary Working alongside the Account Management team within the Legal market place the Pre-Sales Consultant will support them in generating over £9 million of business.

The role will have responsibility for assessing customer technical requirements and building network proposals and documentation to support the account manager in the sales process. The Pre-Sales Consultant will be expected to handle all the technical design elements of the sales process and provide recommendations to the Account Managers as to the right hardware and software in order to meet the customer’s requirements. The Pre-Sales Consultant will also take responsibility for ensuring that the solution recommended is the correct one both from a customer and technical point of view and that it is scalable and deployable by the technical deployment teams. This will require regular liaison with both internal technical teams and on occasion external consultants, to ensure that hardware and network specifications are correct and that they meet the technical requirements of the products and services being provided to the customer.


Main responsibilities • Support the Account Manager in identifying the customer's needs
• Scope the technical requirements of the customer
• Define the feasibility/integration of a solution in a specific environment
• Coordinate the technical requirements with the business process requirements and present proposals / reports in a manner appropriate to the audience in relation to technical complexity
• Create and write reports to support the solutions proposal
• Agree and sign off with the technical teams the product build specifications and timescales
• Perform complex solutions demonstrations
• Perform chargeable pre-sales consultancy projects to customers
• Manage effectively the handover of the customer's project to the Implementation and Support teams
• Report back to the relevant Account Manager on project status and customer issues
• Be a mentor to the Account Manager with informal coaching on solutions hardware and software
• Maintain an intimate understanding of the market, competitive threats and new market opportunities using this knowledge to help drive additional revenue


Key relationships
The role is a customer facing role and will be viewed as being a key part of the sales process both by internal staff and external customers. It will also ensure that the IRIS name continues to be synonymous with excellent customer service and the deployment of solutions that meet the customer’s needs.



2. Person specification
Qualifications • Excellent track record in designing networks from 5 to 500 users
• Experience of operating systems including Windows Server 2003 and 2000
• Understanding of SQL and its impact on server performance
• Knowledge of Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 and 2000 and Exchange’s impact on server performance
• Knowledge of remote access technologies including understanding of requirements for Virtual Private Networks, firewalls, routers, DSL & leased line connectivity
• Knowledge of VOIP systems
• Previous experience of technical pre-sales, preferably for an infrastructure company
• Microsoft Licensing Sales Expert
• Excellent people influencing skills
• Excellent customer facing skills
• Strong business acumen and good appreciation of the sales process
• Attention to detail
• Write clear and easy to understand reports and documents
